I would leave everything as it is now and attend the ceremony once back from the trip.

Your BRP is still valid until you get the naturalisation certificate. The eVisa is irrelevant at this stage.
Agree with this too. the wait is almost over - best not to overcomplicate things.

Hi all,

I have attended the ceremony, I guess I am officially citizen now. (Pushed travel plan to next year)

Just wondering what happened to my chinese citizenship I know According to Article 9 of Chinese Nationality Law, any Chinese national who has settled abroad and who has been naturalised as a foreign national, or has voluntarily acquired a foreign nationality, automatically loses Chinese nationality.

I am thinking to change my first name through the name deed and then apply for new passport with new name.

In this case, will my foriegn passort consider as cancelled/invalided to HMPO?

Congratulations!
I think you automatically lost your Chinese citizenship, but maybe there is a grace period. I suggest you email the Chinese embassy and get a piece of paper stating you have lost citizenship and therefore can't renew your passport. With that and the deed poll you should be able to get a British passport in your new name.

Thank you!
It is such a relive!
Frankly I am quite reluctant to contact PRC Embassy, I doubt they will provide anything.but I will give it go.
I am planning to get a print out of nationality law from PRC goverment website as an offical resource and supply it with my supporting documents.

How did you address the name change with HMPO? this information will be helpful to other applicants in a similar situation.

Happy to!

I disclosed the following documents to support the first adult passport with the new name.
1.Naturalisation Certificate (in old name)
2.Chinese Passport (in old name)
3.Deed Poll for Name Change
4.Bank Statement (in new name)
5.Printout of the Nationality Law from the Chinese government website (Article 9 specifically highlighted)
6.Cover letter explaining the invalidity of the Chinese passport

Although I received an email requesting a name update on my Chinese passport, this can be quickly resolved through their web chat. The Passport Office has an excellent communication system.
