British Passport application processing timelines (only)

Omg! Can't believe the problem with my wife's passport! She was asked when her passport photo was take and she said 3 months ago! Now they have asked her to send some more taken in the last month! This has also caused a delay in my daughters passport which she ha signed as main guardian! Does anyone know what happens when this sort of thing happens? Will she have to go for another interview afterwards???

I wonder what is happening!! I post my application 24th Feb. check and sent still nothing not even a txt message, I wonder if there is a backlog?? Really thought this would be quick.

similar to my case, I am planning to visit the post office and get a tracking number, from there we should be able to know

I think they collect a right amount of applications check and send then they send all together, lady from post office customer service told me that post office has 21 days to deliver it to Belfast
so I complaint to post office that post office worker ask people use check and send desperately providing not realistic info, like its a next day delivery, lady told me ii would be delivered on the next day by 1pm, its been over a week and nothing, they fail to provide tracking number as they know my letter is chucked down somewhere waiting for more application to be sent together

Last time I listened to any advices from Post office workers, I bed they get extra money for each customer they talked into any extra services as always hand in many useless lift lets and scaring people like if u don't get a 1st class tamp or registered delivery,your letter will be missing

I did ask the lady and she did say next day it would be there, I just would feel much better if I even received a txt message at least.I will see what the rest of week bring and hopefully we will all hear from them.

Maybe you won't receive a text? You might just get the interview letter this week (fingers crossed) or early next! Some people seem to have just got the interview letter without the text. Either way, good luck!

yeah that next day is now the 9th day with no message, I called Belfast they didnt receive it yet

Hi All,

As i am in the same situation i called the Post office Help line to find out the Tracking number for the passport application. After talking to a person on the phone i gathered the following information.

1) The Post office will dispatch your application on the same day you do Check & Service if it is a Crown Post office irrespective of the number of application they receive on that day.
2) The reason for Post office not giving you the Royal Mail Tracking Number is: They put your application in a small sealed envelope (i witnessed my self) when you give them. End of the day they put 3 applications together in one Special Delivery Envelope which they receive on that day and send them. So they cannot give you the tracking number as it is not only your application but there are 2 more applications in that envelope/tracking number.
The only place you can get it confirmed is at the HM passport office help line.

This way they save some money on Special delivery charges.I'm not sure how much of the above information is true. But this might give you an idea about how the Post office Check&Send process works.

All I have just been to the post office there is no tracking number what it appears as they send it by some special courier to the passport office or indeed a Roymail mail van will take it but she was not letting me on too much information, but I think all out application might be there waiting to load on system and because it first passport that should normal take six weeks so might be another reason but I think by next week we should see something .

I called HMPO yesterday to check my application status. She said its too soon to get your information and the officer/Caseworker will send you the interview letter once they have done their checks!

Spoke to my local post office this morning and have confirmed all the stuff that has been stated regarding tracking. No tracking available from post offices! Spoke to passport office and have been asked not to worry and just wait for 3 weeks. Don't know why! I have waited 2 weeks now and next week is final. If I don't hear then I am sure to escalate this.

I am so worried right now..I had to send my full birth certificate as I only had my small pink one and assumed that is what they meant..anyways that got there on Monday and I have been emailing a lady from the passport office who emailed back yesterday stating that they had now received my birth certificate and that it is now under examination..I rang today just to double check and the man I spoke to said they had received a document but couldn't see what it was so he put me through to someone else who told me they were still waiting on the certificate. Who the heck do I believe?!

I think that I mentioned to you to completely disregard what the helpline people say. They are clueless!
Just try to relax and surely you will get the interview letter early next week at the latest. Trust me on this!
