I am still slightly confused about the issue of naturalisation. My father became a Canadian citizen without ever having set foot in the country. As I understand it naturalisation comes as a result of fulliling certain requirements post immigration?

My father was a health professional who was recruited whilst residing in the UK to work in the North West Territories. My mother and I were nominated to enter the country as dependants of a Canadian citizen who was employed by the Canadian health service, as part of his contract. My mother was employed ligitimatlely whilst residing in canada and my father was eligible to vote upon entry, and did during our time there.

I am still trying to find out if we hold any critical documents confirming all of this.

Usually that is the case but there are exceptions which allow certain people to be naturalised without needing to fulfil normal requirements. Did you read the Citizenship Act?

It might be possible to apply to CIC to see if they have any information on your status, but that will take time which is the one thing you don't have if you are serious about getting your Canadian status back.
