Timeline (delays due to corona):
1) Decision can take up to 6 months (sent via email/or post). But majority are decided in 3-4 months.

2) Ceremony invitation can take up to 3 months after Approval (sent via email/or post).

3) After you receive ceremony invitation from HO: Ceremony date depending on council availability/modes of ceremony conducted via the particular council.

Note: Adults become British only on date of ceremony (not approval).

You are free to travel before ceremony on ILR BRP. After ceremony you become a British Citizen and need British Passport to travel.

You apply for British Passport separately after ceremony and once you have naturalisation certificate in hand.

Cullinan, what’s your naturalisation timeline pls, from application to biometrics to approval to ceremony and receipt of cert.

I have been a bit frustrated after almost two months after biometrics and I am planning to travel

My timeline:
Applied 22nd June 20
Approval 10th Nov 20 (most likely it was approved in Sep but only got to know after I got a UKVI survey email and enquired)
Ceremony invitation 18 Dec 20
Virtual Ceremony 15 Jan 21 (collected certificate same day).

At that time biometrics were suspended so got my turn to submit biometrics only on 28th August 20 (IDV app) and went for dual submission (UKVCAS) on 25th Sep 20. I must be approved right after 25th Sep (as many applicants were being approved right after dual submission at that time) but never communicated by HO.

This explains why I got my ceremony invitation quickly in Dec 20 even though my approval letter was received in Nov 20 (after I enquired about the UKVI survey I received). Normally it takes around 3 months after approval.

Thanks a lot Cullinan. I am so happy to tell you all that I got my approval email today for me and my family at 3.33 pm this afternoon. Approval down, ceremony invitation letter and ceremony to go.
