Citizenship Application: NI resident, what happens after DAT1 / PSNI clearance?

My wife applied last year (we live in NI), application recognised in Sep. Got e-vetting invitation about a month which we filled in and had no movement on since.

When we originally applied there was nothing on the form about sending in a DAT1 form from PSNI (and haven't had any correspondence received from INIS asking for one).

My wife has never lived in the South so a garda check will show nothing, and possibly even when they eventually get to it they will see an NI address and reject it at that point?

Any advice on just letting this all run its course versus pro-actively requesting a DAT1 and sending it to INIS now off our own bat?

My wife also got the invitation for e-vetting and we live in NI, i emailed INIS but got no reply so she submitted the e-vetting on the 10th June and the tracking is showing Application Process Completed on the 24th June. we were worried that if she didn't complete the e-vetting within the expire date that they would cancel her application because they don't seem to be the most competent of people working there.

She also got a DAT1 which she sent to them last week. My wife applied for citizenship in April 22 due to living in NI for 3 years with her Irish spouse.

Hopefully we get some good news soon.

I do hope you scanned it just in case you will be asked to send it to them by email.
And to be safe, you sent them the result from a DAT1, right? Not just filled out form to request it?

Yes i have it scanned, i scan everything i have sent i just don't trust this department, and yes i have sent the DAT1 result from the PSNI

So sent off the PSNI DAT1 response to INIS and the day after they received it had movement on the eVetting invitation (now with Garda). I was under the impression eVetting was not applicable to NI residents, however just completed it anyway with Belfast address, but at least things are moving.

You may recall that I received the e-vetting invitation back in May along with thousands of others. Even though I was unsure about it as I live in NI and have never lived in the Republic, I completed it anyway.
I emailed them at the time and explained that I wasn't sure what I was to do as I had received the e-vetting invitation, but have never lived in the Republic. Eventually, I got a response basically saying that the e-vetting was sent to me in error.

Additionally, after including the PSNI DAT1 form with my initial application form in May 2022, I requested a fresh one which I sent to them in June this year in lieu of the e-vetting.

I got an email today from the Citizenship Unit saying...

Dear --- ,

In relation to your E-Vetting Invitation - EVET20--------​​, please note that upon review your submission has been deemed ineligible.

Upon review your submission was deemed ineligible for the fo​llowing reason(s):
A person living in Northern Ireland does not need to be Garda Vetted

Something is/was at least moving, but I'm not holding my breath for a swift outcome. Really mad that people who applied earlier in the year got their certificates within 3 months or so .... really not fair.

So....after sending INIS an email querying eVetting invitation for NI resident in JUNE, and being told to send DAT1 in (which we did)...they have now sent us another letter (September) telling us that eVetting does not apply to NI residents and to request a DAT1 to send to them. That is a lost 3 months and doubt we will make it into the next ceremony. Frustration is not the word!

I completely understand your frustration. I’m also a NI resident. I got the evetting invite in May and NVB link in August, completed those and got to disclosure viewed stage. While I was waiting for NVB link I had sent my DAT1 form & i emailed citizenship office that time asking whether I needed to do the vetting or not they responded saying No but then I got the evetting NVB link so I completed it. I’m now concerned that they will inform me that my evetting is ineligible & request DAT1 again

My wife received a letter today from citizenship asking for her to send a DAT1 report within 28 days.
In june she completed the e-vetting and it was disclosure viewed, also in june she sent a DAT1 to the citizenship office in tipperary,

So what does she do now does she contact the PSNI to see if she can get a new DAT1 or can she send again the one that she got in june that she sent to them already?

Will the PSNI send her another DAT1 even though she got one in june?

It really is hard going for people living in the north.

We had exactly the same sequence of events for my wife's application. We got a new Dat1 letter from PSNI again no problem. Emailed them with new Dat1 request form on a Thursday and had it in post by weds the next week.

Did your wife get invited to a cermony yet? if so how long after sending in the police report did she have to wait?
Did she send it to citezenship by normal post registered signed post?

I sent my second DAT1 in June and it was recorded as delivered 4 days later.
I sent it International Track and Sign, costing a whopping £7.40 for one sheet of paper!

We did hear back from them...I got excited when I saw the letter but it was just them asking me for my divorce certificate from my previous marriage. Could have asked for that when they sent the letter about the Dat1 a few weeks earlier but I am no longer surprised by the randomness of this whole process. And by the way I always send everything recorded to them. Yes 7 pounds per letter everytime. Will let you all know what happens next.

Today I received a letter saying if I wish to be considered for inclusion in an upcoming Citizenship Ceremony I should pay the prescribed fee of 950 euros.... and submit a copy of my passport biometrics page and a digital passport sized photo.

I'll do that in the next 24 hours and keep you informed of the process thereafter.

Next step is wait for payment to be processed (takes a while) and then you'll be invited to the ceremony!

By the way, I don't know how will you get to Ireland legally if you don't have ability to go there visa free. Would you need to get a visa now?

It's taken 5 weeks since I submitted the payment but I got email today ... "A Citizenship Certificate Fee was processed on 15/11/2023 - You will receive a letter from this office in due course regarding the final stage of your Citizenship application."

Hoping that I will now be included in the Dublin ceremonies on 18/19 December.

Hi! Thanks for the invaluable information all of you guys are posting! I had a similar case to @Geor, but my case has been so delayed and is slightly different in the sense that I have lived for a few years in Wales before I moved to NI (I'm a non-EU citizen married to an Irish citizen). I have lived in ROI around 3 years before I moved to the UK (but I was single and I was as a student, which doesnt count towards citizenship). By the time of application I had been living in NI for at least 3.5 years. So my summary timeline is:
- April 2022: submitted my paper-based application
- August 2022: received a letter from Dept of Justice acknoweldging application was received and enclosing a fee receipt. This is the first and only paper correspondence I have ever received from them. In it, it had the Person ID number and Application number.
- May 2023: I received an email inviting to submit evetting. Filled the evetting form online and submitted the next day or so.
- August 2023: I received an email saying that my eVetting submission was deemed ineligible because I was residing outside of the State. No further explanation or asking for other stuff.
Since I knew nothing else except that it was deemed ineligible I waited. I waited for ages as no one told me that there was a DAT1 form that I had to request from PSNI. (the system is so uninformed, it is nowhere in their websites).
- 3rd November 2023: I received ANOTHER eVetting email/invitation again!!! looking very much like the one I received in May, except that it had a different team (Team CMUA instead of CMUB).
- 16 november 2023: I stumbled on this very informative chat where people already knew that they had to submit a DAT1 form info from PSNI to continue the process.
- 16 November 2023: I sent my filled DAT1 form by email to PSNI to request my info.
- 17 November 2023 (today): PSNI replied that it is going to take 1 month to send me the info!

Does anybody have the same problem?? I ticked A and B of the form (because I lived in NI and in GB), is that the reason why it has to take that long?

Do you know if you get rejected from the Irish Citizenship process if it takes this long to get the info from PSNI?

Did you fill out the eVetting form? Did you reach out to ISD about it?

I suppose you should make a point that you live in NI and have no further instructions. They will hopefully tell you about the need for a DAT1 around the time it'll be ready.

I tried submitting the evetting form again but it wouldn't let me, a pink banner on the top keeps appearing stating "Unauthorised" when i press the submit button.
I suspect that they know in their systems that I have submitted already?
After reading the posts here in this discussion board, I emailed them last night enquiring about my application. let's see, hopefully it will be like you guys received (basically asking for the DAT1 form) and that's it.
Hopefully the DAT1 form takes less than 1 month, because it seems like an eternity (and just around the corner from the Christmas break, to add more time to this drama!)
