*** Note: Initial application (on 7 March) rejected by PO clerk as countersignatory's date on photo didn't match date used by countersignatory (witness) on the form itself.

Check & Send fee includes multiple submissions of same application (within 1 month) so able to resubmit a corrected form with matching dates

18 March: Passport official phoned my wife to say a British passport cannot be issued to her as she has applied for her 1st British passport in her married name & her current (Filipino) passport (which has not been cancelled) is in her maiden name (!).
(She was naturalised in married name & full supporting docs were ofcourse supplied both for naturalisation & in the passport application).

It appears the official is confusing 'identity' with 'travel documents'; after all my wife is entitled to use her maiden &/or married names.

Her present uncancelled passport (from Philippines) is now rendered unusable; this is because since the date of her British citizenship ceremony (last month), she ceased to be a Filipino citizen. She is at present only a British citizen so issuing a British passport will not in fact create a second 'identity'.

The official advised she will be taking advice from the PO legal department & will contact us again soon on next steps.

This is worrying & disturbing to say the least; (it appears to be a side effect of the requirement to submit all uncancelled passports from all countries).

Hoping the PO will recognise their official is actually mistaken so that the application can proceed as normal.

Got email 19/03/2015 to confirm that my passport application was received by the Peterborough Passport Office on the 16/03/2015.and my passport application is currently going through the examination process. then this morning 20/03/2015 got another email to confirm,The office sent a letter on 19/03/2015 to make an appointment for an interview. Today I had my interview. Was told 5-10 days till I get the passport. Hopefully I will get it next week and I am done with everything.
Interesting as it nearly took a month to get the passport like other people get it within 10 days...

Based on those reporting applying during late February and early March, the elapsed time between application submission and receipt of an interview letter is between 8 and 11 days. Mine came today which is 9 days so there is still a quick turnaround at the moment. I hope this helps those currently applying.
I called the Passport Office and was surprised that they were working today; appointment booked for this coming Tuesday.
A smooth process so far.
