Indianadr ..it does say on your appointment letter that you do not have to bring royal mail envelopes to vfs offices under the Birmingam CGI.

They use DX courier instead.

Bit of a rip off as DX courier sends the documents to many places using royal mail.

Another tip : when you are filling up the DX courier or royal mail envelopes with your own address ( for them to send the documents back to you) take a quick photo of the tracking numbers on the envelops.

Will be helpful to tracks the docs once you get the dispatch message from vfs..

We did not receive OCI which was processed on 16th March so emailed today and got reply back as due to Corona virus our offices closed but once it opened we will let you know through website.
So I think at the moment they are not doing anything in UK but they might process OCI application through all the background checks and other necessary things in India but we will not receive OCI until they reopen.
Let's hope for the best that will be soon...

Pretty straightforward timelines for OCI re-issue. The biggest challenge is getting VFS appointment which they've considerably limited - 25% of original capacity.

Not much activity on this feed recently.

My timeline:

13/8/20 - submitted application for myself (born in India, naturalised British citizen) at London Goswell Road.
7/9/20 - email received from VFS saying decision has been made and docs are being returned. I check the OCI status website and it "docs printing status = processed" by MEA on 3/9/20 and sent to London. Also an OCI number is shown. I'm assuming this means that the application has been approved.

Seems super fast, 3 weeks.

Hi all, I'm about to do a fresh application for OCI and had a perhaps silly point to clarify. Apologies in advance if this is discussed already.

When the original documents are returned, will they send back the original UK passport, Naturalisation Cert, Surrender Cert and even the original Indian Passport? Or do they retain any of these with them.

Also, when the OCI document is received - is it just the document which looks similar to the Indian passport? If yes, why do they keep referring to OCI card in several of the websites including the govt site. I guess, it is not a card? Also, generally how long is this document valid for as standard?

All original documents are returned.

The OCI is a visa that is valid for life. This is subject to eligibility conditions (eg not working for a military) so it can be revoked if the holder does not meet the eligibility criteria.

The OCI card is the ICAO-compatible booklet that you get as proof you hold an OCI visa. It's not a passport. Depending on the age of the person, this needs to be renewed to keep up with facial changes.

In the pandemic it is difficult to get an employer letter. Would a scanned copy of a letter do or do they require a physical copy?

Also given they need a job description, does anyone have a template for this. I couldnt find this on the forum.

Hi Can you let me know if hounslow is accepting Royal mail SD Envelop's and now many as i have conflicting info on how many is required and some center's are not accepting Royal Mail envelops from us.
