I was most surprised to find that, given the 'secure' nature of these missives, both envelopes were just pushed through my letterbox while I was out and my husband was in the garden, no signatures were required (slightly disappointed the passport didn't have a blue cover).
Also that HMPO do not seem to grasp the difference between a proper name (Belgium) and its adjective (Belgian), going by the notation inside my first ever British passport, although I was relieved to find it was in my correct, married name, without my having had to go to the length of providing a statement from my Embassy (plus a certified translation); the covering letter and the nature of the linked/hyphenated names, which I have used "for all purposes" these past 31 years, appear to have been sufficient.

A huge thanks to all on this forum, contributors and moderators alike, for the inestimable insight and assistance provided here - without which I would have had a great deal more difficulty than the rather appropriate 9 months' journey to this process' conclusion. Thank you!

Post office will try to charge and extra £5 for “secure delivery” I opted out of this and chose Royal Mail delivery, but passport came securely through DX couriers. Don’t fall for the extra charge, your passport will come via DX and will require no signature either ways. Your document are safe

Edit by moderator to comment : The £5 for secure delivery is for your documents return not your new passport. Some live in risky areas, hence it is offered to ensure documents are not lost.
