@Kasmac: how did you contact them? Which e-mail did you send you inquiry to?

Nice. Probably 1 week for it to leave the UK, then another 7 weeks to get out of the Johannesburg mail sorting office :(
So when your application gets approved by a case worker, does he/she post the letter of approval or an e-mail is sent?
i contacted to get an update and they told me his citizenship was approved and they sent Registration Certificate to SA ( again my son is under 18 so doesn't need to have ceremony) adults will only receive theirs at the chosen British embassy closest to place of residence , they sent it 5 weeks ago...we are still waiting , i am concerned as the envelope will also contain his passport and all other original birth certificates...
@Kasmac: how did you contact them? Which e-mail did you send you inquiry to?

Congrats on the success of your application. please, how was your documents returned to you, if i may ask?

thanks
Hi Keji,

Thank you so much :D

I'm yet to get my documents back, hoping I'll get them before the ceremony. I didn't send a prepaid royal mail envelope with my application at the time, didn't know where to get it from in Nigeria.

How did you get your documents back?

Hi guys!

So for anyone seeking to get their documents back this was what I did. Note: it also helps a lot when you have a relative or friend legally resident in the UK.

I sent emails to the furthernationalityenquiries@gov.gsi.uk with no replies (no surprise there), called the Liverpool UKVI number and I was told that the best way to get them back would be to write to them.

In the letter I wrote (typed), I introduced myself, stated why I was writing the letter (to get the documents back), went on to list the supporting documents and asked for them to return them to my relative who is resident in the UK.

I sent a word document of the letter to my relative and they printed it out on their end in the UK, along with copies of their passport, visa and utility bill (for proof of address). Also sent copies of the supporting documents and a copy of my certificate of registration to be printed out and sent with the letter. I asked my relative to include an empty self-addressed envelope.

The letter was delivered on 17/08/18.
I got an email from furthernationalityenquiries@gov.gsi.uk on 19/09/18 apologising for the delay and that my documents had been returned in the self addressed envelope that was sent with the letter.
The documents got to my relative on 21/09/18.

So now I've been able to apply for my British Passport, needed some of the documents that were sent back to do that.

Good luck to anyone yet to receive their documents, writing to them seems to be the best option.

Hey everyone, so I wanted to give an update on my UKF application:

22/8/2018 sent off application
24/8/2018 received by Home office
31/8/2018 fee deducted from my account
3/9/2018 acknowledgement e-mail received with case number
27/9/2018 Letter with biometric instructions received
1/10/2018 Biometrics enrolled at TLS office

I guess from here will be the long wait...

From what I have seen with the MN timelines (more frequent updates there it seems to be between 20 and 30 days). Mine has been 38 so far with no further contact.

I advice to send an e-mail to Nationalitybiometrics@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk
And ask whether they can send the instructions as you haven’t received any e-mail in nearly 2 months now.

I sent an email to nationalitybiometrics on 4 September. No reply. Sent another on 18 September. No reply. I sent another one now... 3rd time lucky? Seems like it depends on who picks up the email

That’s strange. Try calling the UKVI number. Maybe they can be of help. +44 300 123 2241

So I applied yesterday online, paid the 80GBP fee, and posted the documentation via DHL today. I sent the official copy of my birth certificate issued this year in which it is stated that the birth was registered in 1988 (the year of my birth) with my father's name included. In my country you can't obtain "original" birth certificate, but it is always the official copy of the entry in the registrar's book of births. Every subsequent change is noted in the official copy, so subsequent entry of my father's name to the entry of my birth would have been noted as such. So I'm hoping for the best, because I'm not sure if I could get the DNA test, since I'm not in contact with my father anymore...

Timeline

10/09/2018 applied online and paid the fee
10/09/2018 received payment confirmation email
11/09/2018 received an email stating my Case ID and notifying me my application is being considered
11/09/2018 sent documentation via DHL
@basicdiagrams - I am curious if you've had any additional contact since this post. I applied online and my timeline is similar to yours and have not had any email indicating that my documents were indeed received and application proceeding.

@All
Will I get an email stating my documents are received and being processed or will the next email be the biometrics ? It has only been 3 weeks but at what point should I follow up with the further inquiries email ? I am not very good at just waiting.

Thank you

September 4, 2018 - Submitted application online
September 5. 2018 - Received automated acknowledgement email with case number in my spam folder
September 5, 2018 - Sent documents from USA
September 10, 2018 - Documents received in Liverpool

For what it's worth, there are multiple UKM applicants including me, who applied online during a similar timeframe and are also waiting for biometrics. The UKM status thread has more conversation on this.

@mercuree, I remember you saying that you had issues with TLS here (them taking forever to schedule your biometrics appointment). Think its worth trying to phone them or just wait? Also received no acknowledgment after sending an email to schedule an appointment

Just wait unfortunately. The phone is actually for the AU embassy in the same office. But they can't help you. They will go so far as to say they don't do biometrics in PE (which they do!).

Oh no my biometrics are done. I was talking about the time from application until acceptance.

It has been 36 working days since I submitted my biometrics (waiting for acceptance letter/further info requests).

Oh I definitely misunderstood you then. Well it takes up to 6 months for them to decide. From what I have seen in the time-lines of people on here, It can take 6 months but it can also be less depending on which case-worker and how much time they need to process your application I guess. So 36 days working days is unfortunately not enough to request for a status on your application is what I read on their website. Unless it has exceeded the maximum which is 6 months. So you would have to patiently wait

Yeah. I'm chilled. Don't mind waiting an invariable length of time with no communication when it comes to a first world country. South Africa - on the other hand... Hence the panic about the biometric appointment. Now I am just going on with life and anticipating waking up to good news at some point in the future.
