Extending Stay in Canada

Post by schofieldj » Fri Apr 20, 2012 7:50 pm

I am a British Citizen living in Montreal, Canada since May 2011. My wife is Canadian and we got married last October.
I am currently on an International Experience Canada Visa which expires on May 22nd. We were making plans to go back to England but since the beginning of the year a lot has happened. My mother became seriously ill and sadly passed away. Because of this we spent some time in the UK assisting and attending the funeral etc. This has impacted our decision to go to the UK somewhat. Also, as we were very busy in the UK dealing with the sad news of my Mothers illness and death, we werent able to apply for my Visa in Canada. In fact, we've not long returned back from the UK.
Although, it is just over a month until my Visa dictates I have to leave Canada, is there a way of temporarily extending this or changing my status? I don't want to leave Canada on May 22nd but obviously don't want to be deported either. Please if anyone can offer advice, it would be invaluable.

Many Thanks,
Ian
