help need on dual citizenship issue

Dear All,

One of my friend's relative had been in UK in his younghood and he got the UK passport in 1972. after marriege, he settled in India and never visited UK. in 2005, he renewed the UK Passport in india itself and he never again used it. now he wants to fly to USA using the passport. here are couple of points where i need your valuable advice
1 - though he had UK passport but he never changed his citizenship status in india because of lack of knowledge. what he should do in this case?. is his stay in India illigal?
2 - As he received the renewed UK passport in India 2005, the passport doesn't have any stamp, will it make any issue during boarding in india.

please help on how he can correct the things?

on what basis did he settle in India ? did he have a valid visa to live & work there ?

I am unaware of Indian immigration rules but surely you would need some kind of visa to stay & work there
