Working abroad while having ILR

Post by savisrich » Fri May 11, 2012 9:13 pm

Hi there,

I hold the ILR visa and I have an offer to work in the Netherlands.
My concern is with the tax on my income and my status of resident in the UK.

I am not planning to obtain the British Passport but I do intend to keep the ILR Valid.

If I were to work full time in the Netherlands but keep coming back to the UK every 1/2 months.

Would this help me keep the ILR valid?

ANd what will I be taxed?

Would really appreciate your thought/input on this tricky subject.

You can remain outside the UK for up to two years and still retain your ILR but that entry has to be with the intention to settle rather than a passing visit.

Will you be taxed on what? If you describe your income, its source and its destination, and whether you will be resident for tax purposes, it may be possible to help you with your enquiry.

Will you be taxed on what? If you describe your income, its source and its destination:

- Income i.e. salary from job in Netherlands paid into account in Netherlands.
Though I might be transferring small amounts into the UK to pay bills etc.

And whether you will be resident for tax purposes:
- I will be working Full time in the Netherlands but with frequent personal visits into UK. In theory, I will be outside of UK over 185 days so I really am not a resident for tax purposes. But would this NON-RESIDENT for tax affect my ILR as it kind of shows that I am NON-resident in the UK ?

Many thanks for your kind input.
