Stolen Biometric Resident Permit

Post by simona78 » Mon May 28, 2012 2:57 pm

Hi everyone-I recently had my passport stolen which contained my biometric permit card. I submitted all the documents along with my passport to apply for a replacement BRP last week and it has been a week and no money has been deducted from my account nor I have received any acknowledgement letter.

I know it is still early days but I am worried because there seems to be people who have been waiting for a long time going through the same process.

I called UKBA today and they said for BRP (RC) forms their aim is to process 65% of applications within 20 working days and 95% within 6 months. 6 MONTHS! This is not even a new application for a new visa, but merely to replace something I already have but got stolen.

I guess there is nothing much I can do so just want to see if anyone else is in the same boat or if anyone has had their resident permit replaced because it was stolen how long was the overall timeline.

if you do a quick search on this forum you will find that others have experienced similar waiting times recently for BRP(RC) applications.

A tip - there is no need to carry your passport or your BRP with you in the UK. There is definitely no need to carry them both at the same time unless you are travelling. I would always advise people to keep the documents at home in a safe place. There is no need for example for the BRP to be in your wallet.

I don't know the circumstances of how your documents were stolen Simona but I know of many migrants who have had their BRP on them for no reason and had it stolen.

It was stolen with my passport when I was travelling in Paris. I kept it with my passport but the other place I would have kept it while travelling would have been my wallet which was stolen as well. My whole bag was taken when I was travelling.
