Hello all,
Let me explain a bit about myself first. I am a Japanese citizen who was granted ILR in August 2005. I am married to a British citizen. I recently applied for a new Japanese passport since my old one was expiring, and now I find myself in the situation where I need to transfer the ILR to my new passport. I know that I am allowed to carry my old and new passports together for travelling, but I came to the conclusion that it is probably best for me to have the ILR transferred to the new passport and have the new biometric residence permit issued in a long run.
I am also not willing to naturalise to be British in the near future because I have aging parents living in Japan, and I am not ready to give up my Japanese citizenship yet. Japan does not allow dual citizenship, so if I naturalise to become British, I will lose my Japanese citizenship by the Japanese law. So, waiting for the time to natrualise to be British and not bother with the ILR transferring is not something I am even going to consider, since it will be years before I will actually naturalise if I decide to do so.
So now explaining a bit of my background, I would like to know if I can bring my husbband with me when I go to NTL premeum service appointment. My husband has offered to pay for the application fee, but I read that the credit/debit card holder has to be present on the day of the appointment if the payment was being made by credit/debit card. I hope someone can help me clarify this. If my husband is not allowd to accopany me on the day, we will have to come up with another payment method.
I am sorry for the very long explanation I typed above, but when I asked this question on another immigration related forum, all I got as response was, " why you bother spending the money to transfer your ILR to a new passport when you can save the money and use it to get British passport in the near future by naturalising?" I guess majority of people came to the UK for settlement are trying to naturaise and become British at the end, but the Japanese law is actaully preventing me to do so right now. I am not oppose to the idea of natrualsing in the future, but not while my parents are still alive in Japan. Anyway, thank you for your time reading my post and I would very much appreciate if someone could give me a straightforward answer regarding the question I asked. Thanks in advance.
