Posting extension this week-current expires 02/07, what then

Hello all and thanks in advance for any assistance.

I'm currently in the UK on a Tier 1 General visa. My current visa is valid until 02/07/2012. I will be posting my extension application this week (I know, I should have filed it sooner but I had travel that I couldn't get out of :/).

From having taken a look at the processing timelines thread I don't think that there's any way I can expect to get my paperwork processed and passport and visa back by then. Does this affect my ability to work here in the UK from 2nd July until I get my documents back?

I am sole Director of a Limited Company that does contract IT work. I have a new contract that is going through compliance currently. The agency that it is going through is asking questions about my visa situation (the new contract is meant to start July 2nd of all dates).

I thought I remembered reading a post on here that quoted some section of UKBA regulations that stated that a current visa is automatically extended from the date of extension application submission until decision is made on an extension application. I tried doing some searching for posts like that but searches on "extension" and "expires" turned up tonnes of results, none of which had what I was really looking for :).

If anyone does know where I can look to get clarifications on what my status will be once July 2nd comes (and until decision is made), I'd greatly appreciate it.

Regards
