Hi everyone,
After what I thought to be a straight forward application I seem to be having a bit of a dilemma with the IPS which I would like your advice on.
I was born in the UK after 1983 and left the UK shortly after that so I hold an oversees passport. 5 years ago I came to this country, studied, got married, FLR, ILR, and became naturalised as a British Citizen.
Now I am applying for the UK passport and I have followed the table on page 13 of the new guidance (Link below) for supporting evidence which states that I should provide my current overseas passport, certificate of naturalisation and 2 photos as I am a naturalised British citizen.
I now received a letter from the IPS saying that as I was born in this country I should provide a copy of the birth certificate which I don't have and was never asked for in the past :-s. Why are they asking for my birth certificate when I am applying through naturalisation, can they refuse my application if I don't manage to get it (as I never seen it before and have just made a request for one now).
When I spoke to IPS over the phone the lady said the new guidance is incorrect for the supporting documents and I need to provide the birth certificate :-s.
