Ashok,Ashokbrt wrote:Dear community members,
I came to the UK in 2007 August together with my son and my wife under Work Permit visa. As my son was 15 year old at that time, and he was granted Dependent visa together with my wife. I've switched into Tier 1 general in 2009 and recently again into Tier 2 General. Threre are no breaks in the application and all the time I'm holding the same job in a reputed company. In both switchings, my son has dependant status.
Now is the time to apply for ILR. I've filled up the SET (O) form for myslef and included wife in it. However, as the Guidelines suggests that I may not include any children above 18 old in the same form, I called them and asked which form do I need to fill for him. They advised me to use a separate SET (O) form for him as well.
AT that time I though it would be easy and clear to do the same for my child. Now while filling his form, I find it confusing at many places. May be I need to read it more carefully, but I couldn't see which category I've to mark for him in the Section 3 of the form? Is it Tier2? or is it 'Others'? Where do I explain that he is dependent of Tier 2 applicant who is applying for ILR in a separate form? How do they link these two application?
I tried to call them back again. After frustatingly long wait, I managed to get hold of them and aksed them my concerns. The response was not very helpful. All the time they kept on saying that I need to fill another form which is SETO and everything is explained in it. That didn't help me at all.
I'm sure some of you've similar situation like mine. I'd highly appreciate if you could share your experience and advise me the best way to fill up the form for him. If some outstanding members or Guru, or moderator can kindly find a little time, please help. My PEO appointment is in the last week of this month.
With many thanks,
Ashok
Hi Ashok,Ashokbrt wrote:Thanks for responding. This forum is amazing. It is not only because of the relief you get reading these posts and personal responses like yours, but also because of the feeling that you're a part of a community who are providing immense support to others without selfinterest. It is alive purely because of people sharing their knowledge and experience to help others.
Now, coming back to your suggestion. I'll tick the 'Others' category and explain that he is a dependent of Tier 2 General who is also applying together in a separate form. I've got the PEO at the end of this month, and definitely share my experience with you and others in the forum.
Oh, yes, thanks for letting me know that they have released new forms today. It is pity that I need to fill it again one more time, meaning a good couple of hours again. Although I believe there may not be any major changes compared to the previous one, I need to go through every lines one more time just to make sure I don't miss it when it matters the most.
Best of luck to both of us!
Cheers,
Ashok
Hi,Ashokbrt wrote:Thanks MSingh966,
Did noticed that earlier and was not worried much for that part though. As the new document is already there, I extracted page 7 and inserted into the earlier file and filled only this bit again. I'm filling the forms electronically, and that saves a lot of time writting manually.
Yes, I've compared the two pdfs and found no difference at all, except this one at page 7.
In the quest of being perfect, I'm losing patience now. I'll keep my fingers off for a week or two from this.
Best,
Ashok

Hi,
I am in a similar situation with 2 over-18 girls. My appointment is in August.
For Section 3, Which Category, I am planning to put 'Others' as well. Could I ask what you will be putting in the box under the following:
If you have ticked the other purposes or reasons category, please explain briefly why you are applying for indefinite leave to remain in the UK. You will also need to provide a letter explaining in more detail why you are applying.
Will your dependent be providing a letter too and what should be in there?
Thanks very much for reading and appreciate any support possible.
Regards,
R
Hi Rollie,rollie wrote:Hi again.
Thanks for the responses. My appointments are on the 9th of August. I will tell you how I get on.
One more question:
Did you and your dependents do the Life in the UK test as well? I am slightly confused if that is required for dependents who came in before 18 years of age and are now above 18 years.
Thanks,
R
Thanks Rollie. I was in Croydon yesterday. For details of the documents, please see the thread:rollie wrote:Hi Ashkobrt,
Congratulations!! Which PEO did you go to?
If you don't mind, could you share with me what were the documents you had in your file?
Thanks,
R

All the best for your ILR application. My appointment is on 13th August so I am sure I will get your experience posted here and will get befitted. Coming back to your question: Yes ! any person above 18 years old have to pass the life in UK test or ESOL unless he/she medically not able to do so. To share few more information:
I discussed the category 'OTHERS' with UKBA over phone. They confirmed that the OTHERS category is correct for adult dependent. In the field below explain : DEPENDENT OF WORK PERMIT HOLDER.
You will also have to book second appointment for the adult dependent. In case of your two adult daughter you will need two separate appointments for them. It means you will have to book one for you and below 18 dependents with your wife. Two for daughters. I hope you have done it already. For those, who have not done it yet, it is very difficult to have 3 continuous appointments so try as close as possible keep main applicant as the first in row. Once The main applicant is called in, ask the case worker that you have two dependent daughters turned above 18 while living in UK. The CW will be kind enough to treat all applications as a family and will update their system so that your daughters do not get another call from the speakers in ceiling. All the best. Come back with ILR approval letter, post your experience and help the community. Don't be nervous I am sure you will come back with a smile on your face.
I am also copying my two letters suggested by one of solicitor

I was hoping some of the members on this forum could advice me on my situation.
I am currently on a PBS Dependent Visa and came to UK in 2009 with my
father who is on a Tier 1 General Visa and we wish to apply for our
Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in June 2014.
I have just finished my Masters degree in Engineering at Newcastle
University and I am planning to start working full-time for a company
near London.
I was concerned that though my current visa says I am permitted to
work, however the ‘Settlement applications by your dependent’ page on
UKBA website mentions that the dependent ‘should not be leading an
independent life’.
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... ependants/
I wanted to ask would my living away from home, working full-time and
earning a salary would affect my eligibility when applying for ILR
along with my father.
Your advice on the matter will be much appreciated!
