ILR for work permit holder

Dear Forum members,

I have a question for a friend of mine but as i dont know the answer i wanted to check with you.

He is from Pakistani origin came in the UK in 2005 on a student visa and then in 2007 switched to work permit sponsored by his employer. He has always worked and he is at the moment with his employer for the past 5years working as Manager earning approx 25000 a year.

Does he qualify for ILR in the UK? And if so how does he go about it ??
