New rules - KOL req settlement for unamarried partner

Post by Cazzaleyton » Mon Jul 09, 2012 11:52 pm

Good evening

I ve been granted a KOL req settlement visa as the unmarried partner ( over 4 years) of a UK resident on ILR in April 2012. I was told that, as i was outside the UK while applying, to be granted ILR I would have to enter the UK and take the Life in the UK test which could be done any time within the 2 years duration of the initial visa. Im now in the UK and waiting to do the test booked for the end of the month prior to my ILR application, which I plan to do before the 1st of August. What happens now that the rules have changed? Can i still apply for ILR as soon as i pass life in the uk test? Or will have to wait for 2 years, even tho my visa is a Kol req issued in April?

Any input will be much appreciated. Many thanks.

You can do LiUK test and apply for ILR after that. There is no requirement to wait any period of time.

If you apply for ILR in October 2013 or after, you will require B1 level qualification in addition to LiUK test.

In any case, you must apply for ILR before expiry of your visa.
