£18,600 minimum during the time you apply?

Post by CharlieHayes » Sat Jul 14, 2012 6:37 pm

Hi, I was wondering if that 18,600 pound minimum was what they look at when you apply or is it the minimum you will have to make once you arrive in the UK? And if so, does that mean you need to have a job lined up right away when you move?

My husband (british citizen) lives with me in the U.S. He is almost done with obtaining his U.S. citizenship and shortly after we plan on moving back to the UK. Now that a sticks been thrown onto our tracks, our 4 year wedding anniversary won't mean anything and I will be under a 5 year probation period. Correct?

Is there anyway you can apply for settlement any earlier through years of marriage or is it a strict and fixed 5 year probation period?

Also, upon arrival, will you be able to work? If not, when would you be granted authorized employment?

Again, the minimum funding is £18,600 pound salary from our current U.S. jobs or is it supposed to be from a U.K. income?

In advance, thank you so much for answering my questions.

Life is easier for all when you stick to one thread.

To answer:

No - there is no shorter route now.

yes - you can work on arrival

The british citizen (e.g. your partner) must have a confirmed job offer in the UK if you are not going to use savings to cover the income threshold. A job offer for you is not good enough.

The financial requirements and the description of how to meet them are here:

Now when it comes to school. Can I qualify for financial aid or student loans in the UK during this 5 year probation period or would that be considered help from the government? (even though it's for school and not to live off of)

Also, what would be my immigration status during these 5 years? During the process of my husband gaining citizenship he had statuses such as permanent resident and so on depending on what step he was going through within the process.

I've researched and it looks like you apply for family settlement and if approved you are granted 33 month probation period. (What is your status here?)

Then before that period expires, you apply for further leave to remain and once granted you are allowed another 30 months. (What is your status here?)

After a total of 5 years you can apply for indefinite leave to remain (settlement).
