Hi,
I have a friend who came to the UK as an asylum seeker in 1997, and was granted indefinite leave to remain in 2010.
We are interested in obtaining travel documents to take short breaks to visit places like France, Italy, and other places beyond Europe - BUT, my reading of the Home Office application that we got SEEMS to say that people with indefinite leave to remain should apply for a 'Certificate of Travel', which doesn't seem to enable people to visit places like France etc....
I'm confused by this, and so could anyone tell me if someone in this position can get a document such as a Convention travel Document which DOES enable travel to said places, and what we should do about this ?
For example;
Are there different types of Indefinite Leave to Remain?
Or perhaps is it possible to UNDO the leave to remain, and be considered as an asylum seeker/refugee/whatever (as she initially was), to qualify for a different document that would enable general holiday type travel, AND IF SO , what are the implications of doing this for this persons future life in the UK ?
A complex and long question i know, but ANY info/advice would be very appreciated, as we have NO IDEA of what we should do...thanx
