continuous living requirements

Post by mrz » Wed Jul 25, 2012 11:27 am

i completed 3 years undergrad course on tier4 visa. i will now do my postgrad course for 2 years. i can extend my visa for this from my country or can do it in here in UK. but in future if i apply for british citizenship will it affect the total duration of the stay? like if i extend the visa from my country do they count my stay only 3 or 2 years or they will count it as 3+2 = 5 years?

You cannot apply for Citizenship, no matter how much time you spend on student visa. If you spend 10 years in UK and have no gaps, you can apply for ILR and then for Citizenship after another year.

You need to be on a valid work visa for the last 5 years. Yes you will be able to apply for ILR after spending 10 years in UK (provided 10 years rule will still be in place).
