Can PSW applicants apply for Tier 2 Gen w/o spending 6 mths

Hello, I am looking for a reply from a person who is well aware of the Tier 2 General immigration rules.

Question:
1. How sooner can my sponsor apply for my COS if my current PSW visa expires on 31 Dec 2012 ?

2. Is there any time period that my current employer / sponsor has to wait before this expiry date or can they apply for it now ?

3. Assuming that the above points 1 and 2 are not required / necessary then can I apply for my Tier 2 visa there in itself on receiving or it is not possible ie do I need to wait atleast 1-2 months before my visa expires ?

4. Is it necessary for the PSW applicants to work for 6 months before they can apply for the tier 2 visa or they can apply it once their employer / sponsors receives their COS

It would be very appreciated if any of the guys answers these questions as I am a bit confused.
