Visa refusal history - while applying Tier 1 Dependent extn

Hi All, Thanks for reading my question. I am in the process of applying for Tier 1 General dependent extension visa for my wife and kid. While they applied for their initial visa, their visa got rejected due to confusion in fund maintenance. I made the appeal and got the visa. Currently, In their application for visa extension, I see a question at E8, asking "Have your ever been refused entry clearance/visa or leave to enter or remain in the UK?". I am bit confused, to say yes or no since their earlier visa application was successful after appeal. Please let me know your experience or suggestions. Thanks in advance.
