Schengen visa validity

I've just got schengen visa from swiss embassy. The visa states that its valid for 1 month and it is MULT visa. But the duration is 10 days although I asked for a 90 day visa and supplied valid ticket and hotel bookings for my multiple visit. One in sept and next one in december but they still granted me 1 month visa with 10 day validity. Does this mean that I can stay 10 days per visit in a month or does it mean that I am allowed to only stay 10 day despite any number of visits I make in a month?

e.g. If I travel once and stay 10 days and then come back and a week later I go again and stay 5 days. Is it acceptable?

I think you understand this already. You could perhaps solicit clarity from the embassy directly?
