Tier 1 (General) Dependant extension from India

My Tier 1 General visa is for renewal in January 2013. My wife, who is currently on Tier 1 General Dependant visa, needs to be India from December 2012 to Febrauary 2013. Can she apply for an extension/renewal in India once I get mine renewed in UK ?
Or is it a rule that the dependant has to renew the visa only in UK?

Any advice would be appreciated.

She can make a new application for entry clearance (a new visa) from India.
