Passport application & travel plans

Post by vc123 » Thu Sep 13, 2012 11:29 pm

Hi everyone,

I will have my citizenship ceremony next Friday (21st sept) and then I am meant to be travelling on 19th October which is exactly 5 weeks later (I really dont want to cancel the trip). I have a few questions that I'd be very grateful if anyone can help with:

- can I request my current passport/supporting documents back & say I need them for urgent reasons (any ideas? I know you're not supposed to travel...)

- If I travel anyway- will I have any trouble getting back in the UK (I have ILR but will it be cancelled now?)

- as first time applicant is there ANY way of doing fast track or sending certified copies of passport instead of actual passport??

THANKS!

Yes, you can request, but no guarantee that you will get them urgently. Mine took about 2 weeks to come back. Make sure you pay extra £3 to have them back by DX instead of 2nd class post.

There are several threads on this issue - just do a search.

No. Mine took just under a month from applying to getting the passport [it would've been 4 weeks if I was at home to receive it couple of days ago].

You can keep track of progress after 2 weeks, by using online form on IPS website.
