Default validity period for non-EEA resident card ?

Post by gilbutre » Thu Sep 27, 2012 2:51 pm

Hi,

I'm a EEA national, my wife is a non-EEA national who obtained a resident card. However she lost her resident card before having the chance to make a copy of it.

One thing I need to know is the validity of this card. I read everywhere that it is 5 years, yet my wife believes it was written 2 years on the document, and a friend of her told her the same thing (2 years).

Is it 2 or 5 years, and what this 2 years period could correspond to ?

Standard period is five years, unless you specifically told them that you'd only planned to be here for two, in which case they might have shortened it.
