ILR > 180 days absences (UK ancestry visa)

Post by Rosco » Thu Oct 04, 2012 3:53 pm

I am a NZ citizen in the UK on an ancestry visa and am planning to apply for ILR once my 5 year period is up.

I have worked in the UK and paid tax/NI for the whole period (worked for two employers).

However I would have had approximately 250 days outside the UK over this 5 year period – almost entirely holidays (plus a couple of weeks of business trips).

I would love to hear from anyone who has had a successful ILR application with absences greater than this 180 days figure referred to in the rules.

I know you can exclude the day of departure and arrival but would welcome any other ideas on how best to present the absences

For example whether to show separately annual leave days? weekends? bank holidays? anything else?

Also a few stamps in my passport are smudged / illegible - does anyone know if UKBA checks these dates themselves or is it up to you have a best guess?

Many thanks for any advice.
