Family Visit Visa - validity period

Post by pauldm21 » Wed Oct 10, 2012 8:25 pm

Hi folks,

Quick question regarding my wife coming to visit me in the UK on a family visa..... Is it automatically valid for 6 months from when she enters the UK? Or can they set what a different expiry date on it?

The reason I ask is that we want to book a one way flight. We are planing to go back to Peru together early next year but ideally want to be able to decide on when, a bit closer to the time.

Also, now that he has been issued the visa, I assume her entering the UK with a one way flight will not raise any suspicion/issues at the entry point?

Thanks

It's automatically valid for six months from the date of issue. So if she has it now the six month countdown has already started.

Thanks Luca. Any advice on whether booking a one way flight creates any potential issues for my wife at border control??

It will not be an issue because she has already been cleared for entry to the UK by applying in Peru. In any case, a return ticket has no intrinsic value with regard to demonstrating returnability.

A visit visa is normally valid for six months from date of entry or until its expiry date, whichever is sooner.
