Is Ann Romney a British citizen?

Her father immigrated to the US as a teen in the 1920s.

I am assuming that she was born in wedlock and that she has not renounced her British citizenship.

Is she British?

If I read this right, her grandfather was British and emigrated to the US in the 1920s. That means her father could have claimed British citizenship by descent. That means that she is not British. British nationality could be transmitted through one generation only.

Edit: I see what you mean. Her father arrived later, after the grandfather settled in the US. That means her father presumably started his life in the US with British citizenship. Which would mean that she could claim British citizenship by descent, assuming her father did not renounce his and she would choose to do so. Rather improbable, but still very interesting.

The Americans are so crazy about their European origins sometime. It is funny that this pops up as a booster during the election campaign. :)

Although if the grandfather had become a U.S. citizen before 1949, he would have lost British subject status automatically. His children under 21 would also have lost their British nationality if they also became U.S. citizens at the same time.

JAJ,
Is this because of British or US law?
