Is Tier 1 Extension taking longer than usual recently...

Hello Everyone.

I was wondering if anybody could help me with my questions and my queries.
I have applied for my visa on
15/10/2012
16/10/2012 UKBA Received application.
thats it nothing else after that..neither fees been deducted yet nor acknowledgement letter received.

Is it really taking this long for all of this.
and I called them today and they don't have clue about anything.
they are just saying they can only answer after 6 months..

please help
