ILR parents, new child

Post by doctorinuk » Sun Oct 28, 2012 10:51 pm

Hello,

Both myself and my wife have obtained ILR a while ago, and we are expecting a child soon. I keep seeing conflicting views on whether my new baby is going to be a British citizen directly or do I have to apply using the MN1 form?

Can you please advise?

Thank you

If the parents are settled (have ILR) at the time of birth of the child, and the child is born in the UK after 1983, will automatically be a British citizen.
