Hi,
I'm an Australian dependent on an ancestry visa and our marriage is looking shaky. Soon after I moved to the UK (Nov 2011) I got an amazing job at a university (academic position requiring a PhD) which would have qualified for T2 had I wished to apply for it then (Feb 2012, with all the necessary bits - advertisement length, ability to sponsor, evidence of funds, qualifications, etc.). Would it be possible for me to switch to a T2 if my marriage breaks down at my current job? Or would I have to go back to my original country & reapply? Would they have to re-advertise my job?
I realise this is an uncommon question, so I'm a bit desperate to find out what my options are - my job is my dream job, and I've been a great citizen!
edit: looking through the restricted certificate codes, it seems that my job would fit in one of the PhD-level SOC codes (researcher) - and thus may not have to do a RLMT? Would that make it exempt from the RLMT (and thus make it easier for my university to offer me a CoS, even if I have to go back to Australia)?
