Key Conditions For Significant Investor Visa

Post by Bedzilla » Wed Nov 28, 2012 10:04 am

Last May, Australian Immigration and Citizenship Minister Chris Bowen MP first announced the significant investor visa introducing it as a key component of the Government’s business innovation and investment program that requires visa holders to invest for the amount of AUD 5 million minimum requirement. This program is positioned to target migrants with a successful business and investment track record to contribute to the national innovation and the Australian economy.

Mr. Bowen said that the amount of AU$ 5 million minimum is considered sufficient for a significant investment contribution, justifying eligibility for a visa concession without meeting the point test, no upper age limit and access to reduced residence requirements.

Significant investors must then make a complying investment in Australia including state and territory government bonds, unlisted private Australian companies or managed funds regulated by the Australian Security Commission invest in Australian assets.

If visa holders prefer to invest directly to a certain Australian company, this specific company should meet certain qualifying business standards for eligibility.

Certain guidelines are made in selecting prospective high-earned migrants, to ensure that these visas are offered to the most experienced business personalities and high profile investors through the partnering of the State and territory governments with the Commonwealth.

Mr. Bowen also said that this flexibility recognizes the needs of the global investor community and at the same time encouraging investment to Australia.
