No Self Assessment Submitted for Limited company

Post by icon3001 » Wed Dec 12, 2012 1:13 pm

Hi All
I was the director of my limited company which started in 2007 and closed trading in 2010 and no self assessment submitted so far. On calling HMRC I found out that they did not receive any Self Assessment from me and neither they sent any letters to me to submit self assessment.

HMRC (Self Assessment Team) said I can submit my self assessment and they asked me to if the company made any profits.

My question is: I have used the earnings from that company for my HSMP visa earlier. I always trust my accountant and thought he has submitted my Self Assessment. Is it must to show the Self Assessment payments or letters for ILR requirement due in next month.

Thanks

John

No self assessment submitted for what? The company? No CT600 Corporation Tax returns and accounts and computations submitted?

What about the company's PAYE Scheme? Was that operated properly?

Or when you mention self assessment, are you talking about self assessment for you as an individual? If so, were you in receipt of any notices from HMRC requiring you to submit Self Assessment returns?

By "No Self Assessment submitted" I mean as the director of the company, I did not submit self assessment to HMRC of myself (Director) which is a must I knew now. Am i correct?

I closed the company and did not submit Corporation Tax form etc.

There is no PAYE scheme as I just take dividends from the company.
I spoke to HMRC to check if I have submitted they said they did not receive any Self assessment not they sent any letters to me to submit.
They have no records.

Hope this helps

Hmmm! So were accounts of the company produced? In other words, was the net profit after Corporation Tax ascertained? Or put it another way, are you actually sure the dividends the company paid were legal?

Also, taking into account the dividends you received, were you pushed into the Higher Rate tax band? And if the answer to that is yes, did you notify HMRC of your chargeability?

Thanks for your response John.

Yes, accounts of the company not prepared because the company stopped trading and had to close the company. Companies house said no need to submit anything.

Taking into account the dividends I received, I am not pushed into the Higher Rate tax band.
