Yes, if the limited company is VAT registered

"Referees: List of acceptable professional persons
Director/Manager/Personnel Officer of a VAT registered Company
"
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it...

Companies usually put their VAT registration number on their website if they have one.

If they are VAT registered, they should put their VAT on all invoices they issue as well.

If you can't get their VAT number from their website and you don't have an invoice from any of them, you can try to ask your referee's if they know the VAT number of their company.

You can verify if the VAT number is correct by checking the European Commission website

Ok the information here suggests that they are VAT registered. Companies must register for VAT when they have an annual turnover of £78'000 or over and by the sound of this, they easily exceed this threshold.

Besides I found an invoice by them issued to the Kensington and Chelsea Borough Council showing their VAT number at the bottom. Of course VAT number can change with change of ownership and companies can deregistrater as well, but if they are still trading, chances are they are still VAT registered so if I was you, I wouldn't worry about it
