Naturalisation is the process of becoming a citizen of a state. Citizenship is what you hold when you are a citizen, I.e. after the naturalisation process and ceremony.

There are various routes to citizenship, namely by birth (though not default in UK in certain circumstances), by naturalization, by registration etc. Some countries also award as honorarium or honorary citizen, though more of a title than actual citizenship functions/rights.
