Tier 2 graduate developer confustion

Post by tonydee » Sat Mar 16, 2013 6:22 am

hello people. I have a quick question regarding switching to a tier 2 from a PSW visa. I have got my PSW 2 years ago and for the first 18 months, I worked as an marketing executive even though I have a degree in computing. I finally got a job as a software developer 5 months ago and recently applied for a tier 2 visa. My current job title is Survey Programmer, however it is a graduate developer role because it requires someone with no commercial experience and I had no commercial experience when I began the job. When I made my tier 2 application, I had been i the job for 5 months. Now, my questions are this:

1. Will the UKBA consider me a graduate developer even though I have been working for 2 years but only as a developer for 5 months out of those 2 years?

2. On my COS, my employer put 'Survey Programmer (Graduate Developer)' and the job description they put was 'Developing web surveys, managing website, developing web applications, checking and verifying data.' With this job title and job description, will the UKBA match my job title to Graduate Developer or Programmer?

I would really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this because I have been reading a lot of threads in this forum that say you are only considered a graduate developer if you have either graduated less than 6 months ago or you have been working for less than 6 months. However, the UKBA's codes of practice state that graduate developers are those that have 6 months or less commercial experience which is exactly the case with me.

Please I would be very happy if someone could shed some light based on a personal experience.

Thanks for your time'

If you work over 6 months you cannot be considered as "Graduate" .

Thanks for your reply muhdkhokhar. Can you please direct me to where it says if you have worked for more than 6 months you are not considered a graduate? I have worked for more than 6 months in total however I had only been working as a developer for 5 months when I made my application. The role requires no experience and it is my first development role so I had no commercial experience when I started the role. Please clarify

Thanks

You already a PSW, which means your are OK to switch to Tier 2, you only need to be working with your sponsor at least for 6 month.
