Can I claim housing benefit while on Tier 1 General

Post by hakolos » Sun Mar 17, 2013 12:12 am

Hi,

Can you please provide me a guidance regarding housing benefit eligibility?

I am on Tier 1 post study, with a new born child. MY partner is on Tier 1 General already 3 years.

I used to work but not anymore. MY partner is self employed, used to have decent income, but things went wrong and he is not generating any profit no more.

So, we cannot pay the rent. Also, I receive child benefit of 20pounds week.

Can I apply for housing benefit to get some support for paying the rent?

Your advice is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

vinny

You are breaching the conditions of your visa by claiming child benefit.

And you are not allowed to claim housing benefit on your type of visa.

It is better to pay back, or you may face trouble while applying for ILR.
