Schengen visa Confusion for House Husband

Post by spythedude » Thu Mar 21, 2013 4:53 pm

Hi there,

I was not sure where to post this but here seemed the right place.

I am South African Nationality and I have been living in the U.K for the past 16 years on a Valid Full UK Residence/Settlement Permit with right to remain indefinitely .

I have a British Partner (not my wife yet) and 2 kids who are British and we have been together for about 8 years.

At the moment I am unemployed (full time athlete)
My partner is in full time employment and she supports the both of us.

We want to travel to Europe but we are a bit unsure of what the process would be for me getting a Schengen visa as I don't work?

I have had a look at the Schengen documents but it does not list the options for my circumstances.

Can anyone help out on what the best process would be.

Cheers,

Hi there, yes she is british. Her and kids hold full british passports. I am entitled to british passport but the cost for naturalization and stuff is really high..

Thanks

A British passport holder can visit schengen area without visa. However, on British settled status getting schengen visa is pretty easier. If the intention is just visiting then just apply schengen visit visa at any schengen country's embassy.

You would appear to be a durable partner. It would be possible to get benefit from 2004/38/EC (free, facilitated visa). You would need to demonstrate that you are in a durable partnership.

She and kids were both born here. I am aware they can all travel no problem. I was more trying to figure out what would be the best option for myself as she is supporting me.

Wow many thanks for this. I have never heard of this and seems quite straightforward.

Many Thanks,

Cheers, I guess now its time to find a consulate that recognises the 2004/38/EC (free, facilitated visa) bit and is not that VFS global website.

Any recomendations on the best / easiest consulate to use would be? We are in the North West of England..

Cheers,

I would suggest that you pick the country that you would like to visit and ask them directly about your situation and how they handle other family members.
