WP + Tier 1-- docs to support time spent as WP holder

Post by AloofStar » Fri Mar 22, 2013 4:51 pm

Hi Guys,
I am completing my 5 years residence condition for ILR next month as per the following:

April 2008 to Aug 2009 ===> work permit (NOT Tier 2)
Aug 2009 to April 2013 ===> Tier 1 General

I am not fully sure about required documents to support my time spent as work permit holder.
I guess UKBA requires letter from employer. But I am confused if the employer's letter has to show SOC code, salary, days of UK absences etc. As far as I know the SOC thingy was not existed, when I got my work permit.

Apologies if these kinds of questions are answered already. I appreciate if someone could help me with the docs or direct me to the right link to find myself. Thanks.

Employer letter with SOC code is required only for those people who are on tier 2 and seeking ILR. You need proof that you were working in UK .P60 and bank statement which covers that period is suffice.

P60s, Pay Slips, Bank Statements and Employment Contract during the period should be sufficient.

Ideally a letter from the employer will do

or

P60 for 2008-09
P45 for April 2009 - August 2009 (if you left the employer) of P60 for 2009-10 (if you continued with them with Tier 1)

or

if you don't have both P60 & P45 (or atleast one missing ) then use payslips to cover the period.

Also see latest requirements on absences from the UK and revised documentation requirements for Tier 1 applicants.

Dear All,
Many thanks for the info. Appreciate ur time & care in telling me about the required docs.

I left my WP employer (with good terms of course) after securing Tier 1. Probably I can ask them to issue me a letter to cover the period. But would that be enough?

I dont have the complete sequence of bank statements of my WP time (lost few months in between). Also lost P45 - so careless & disorganized!

In view of post 6 April 2013 rules...I am also worry about how to justify my UK absences - my absences are within the limits though. My WP employer (an academia) was very flexible on holidays. I was a post doctoral fellow and the Uni never maintain any record of my holidays! So they can't provide any UK absence related letter.
