Spain: changes in £££ requirements? Non-EU civil partners?

Post by roxx79 » Fri Mar 29, 2013 4:46 pm

Hi there, I live in Thailand and hope to bring my Thai partner and twin girls to live in Spain for a year or so to exercise my treaty rights. I have been asking a few questions elsewhere and it seems that the requirements at the end of 90 days for EU and non-EU family members in Spain have become considerably more stringent than they were previously. However nobody there knows in what way they have changed.

Can anyone here shed light on the requirements to show you'll be self-sufficient in the event that no job materialises? We have about €8000 and should be able to boost that ourselves or get a loan from my folks to bolster it if required. Does the money need to be in a Spanish account?

On the other forum I was shot down for asking whether Spain accepts civil partnerships as akin to a spousal relationship - the person didn't give me an answer.. Does anyone here know?

Once before somebody pointed me to a really fantastic document which covered different countries' transposition of the 38/C directive and I bookmarked the link. However it no longer works. Could you direct me there again if the link works for you?

Many thanks

I also noted that those links have become inactive. It could be that they are about to publish an update. In any event they are rather old.

The changes Spain made are allowed by the directive. Previously, Spain imposed no conditions on an EU national living in Spain, this is no longer the case.

A person needs to be a worker, self-sufficient person or student. If the latter two, needs to have health insurance.

Civil Parnterships

Post by EUsmileWEallsmile » Sat Mar 30, 2013 7:24 am

Spain does accept civil partnerships in principle, but it may involve quite a bit of paperwork.

Spain is not presently a very easy place to find work. You might want to consider a different EU member state.
