ILR & Tax Refund

Post by Zeeshan_humayun » Mon Apr 01, 2013 11:23 pm

Hi,
I had my visa extension in the middle of 2012 and I stopped working after that because of work restriction on new visa. Therefore the overall tax of 2012 that I have paid is more than what I was suppose to pay.
Now I am thinking of claiming refund. If I do that will it have any effect on if I apply for ilr 10 years??

Regards

I was on a student visa but I was allowed to work 20 hours during term-time and full-time off-term. But after I got extension on my student visa in mid 2012, under new rules I am not allowed to work at all, that's why I stopped working.

I am not au fait with student visa scenarios as much so someone with the knowledge can confirm,

But if you have paid more tax than what you are due you can definitely claim a refund.

That should have no bearing on your ILR, home office can not expect you to pay more tax than what is due.

Zeeshan_humayun, you are definitely allowed to claim the tax refund due to you, and claiming that will have no effect whatsoever upon any application you make in the future.
