stamp on passport and ref number

I travel frequently and normally the visa officer only stamps my passport on arrival the airport seeing my TIER 1 visa. This time the officer stamped the passport with an arrival date stamp and also wrote a reference number under it. Can you please kindly advise what is this? Why is this different than a stamp only?

reference number shd be number on your brp
