Family visit visa of the person in UK who is on a UK Tier 1

Post by krish0707 » Tue Apr 09, 2013 10:45 am

Hi,
I am currently in the UK on a Tier 1 (General) visa. My mother, brother & his family (consisting of my brother, his wife & 3 year old daughter) wish to visit me in the UK. I looked at the VAF 1B form to be filled by family members intending to apply for a visit visa to the UK, but it states that the person in the UK should be permananlty resident in the UK which I am not.

Which form should my family in India fill up to visit me in the UK?

General visit visa. But make sure that paper applications are accepted in their location. Most locations are now limited to on-line only.

General Visitor

As mentioned by Lucapooka, it needs to be a General Visitor visa if you are on T1 General.

Additionally please make sure you have ample visa validity before you apply for their visa. I got the general visitor visa for my in-laws recently rejected for the reason my T1 General didnt have much validity left. More specifically they ask for alternate accommodation and the visitor's capacity to take care of themselves if your visa is about to expire.

Please treat this information as a reason to be more cautious and provide additional documentation where required. I will post a separate thread on the contents of the letter.
