Assistance applying for a Schengen Visa at Maltese Embassy

Post by jessie179 » Thu Apr 18, 2013 9:43 am

Hi All

I would like to get some clarification regarding getting a visa to go to Malta please.

I have been in the UK for 8 years and married to British Citizen. We have 2 daughters. I still travel on my South African passport and therefore need to apply for a visa to visit the rest of EU.

We have a holiday booked to Malta on the 24th May for 2 weeks. Flights booked and accommodation sorted as well. I am trying to get an appointment at the Maltese Embassy to get a Schengen Visa because we are planning on going to Belgium and France over the Summer holidays.

We last went to Malta in 2010 and I used an agency and paid them £50 to get me a visa which was valid for 6 months and they did it via the French Embassy. This agency no longer exist. therefore the only way to get one is to email the embassy which I have done and am waiting on a date but I have just seen this on there website.
Family Members of EEA Nationals
According to EU Directive 2004/38 family members of
EEA nationals who are in
possession of a British
Residence Card
with an endorsement of a “
family
member of
an EEA national
” do not require a visa for visits up to 90 days to
Malta when they are accompanying the EEA national.
Found here http://www.foreign.gov.mt/Library/PDF/V ... %20_3_.pdf

Can someone please clarify that for me please. Does that mean I do not need a visa to go to Malta and after in to Belgium.

Sorry if I don't make much sense.
Thanks

Are you in a possession of such card?

If not, visa is advised especially if traveling by air. However, it should be free (and quick) to get it (assuming you are traveling together with your husband).

Unless you have a card entitled, "family member of a Union citizen", it is unlikely that you have the card they quote.

You can apply for a free visa directly with the embassy, no need to pay an agent. Last time round were you charged a fee for the agency in addition to the visa?
