New born's Passport-Please advise

Hello All,

I am a British citizen( obtained it recently) and my wife is an indian citizen on spouse dependent visa.
I am aware that my new born son is eligible for british citizenship but I dont want him to have that( cause we plan to go back in a few years). Is it possible for me to apply for an indian citizenship for my child based on my wife's citizenship status which is indian( she is not ILR either)

As a british citizen studying in india, we would not only be paying too much for his education but also he ( my son)wont be eligible for any government exams etc later in life.

Please help with this query. Most grateful.

Do I need some sort of clearance from UKBA that my new born son has not applied for british citizenship before I apply for Indian passport?

Its unclear from the numerous posts. All I understand is that the new born is eligible to apply for indian passport based on mom being indian, but not sure how long it takes and whether I need a certificate from UKBA saying no british passport yet applied for.
