Help with entry as a visitor soon to be EU passport holder

Post by nslebo » Tue Apr 30, 2013 5:23 am

Hello,

I would appreciate some guidance/advice about my plans to visit and then relocate to the UK. I have plans to relocate to the UK on my Irish passport. I have Irish citizenship by way of my Irish born parent. My boyfriend is British and resides in England. We plan to live together and shortly thereafter get married :D. So I had planned on entering the UK on my Irish passport and I have just been informed that the processing times have increased and it will not be ready before I need to leave. My date to move is set for June 8. My passport should arrive a few weeks later at my parents house here in the US. So now my plan has changed to entering the UK on my American passport as a visitor. I have my dog Sheba with me and she will be entering under the Pet Travel Scheme. I then plan to have my Irish passport couriered to me in the UK which at that point I will leave the UK on my American passport and reenter on my Irish so I will then be able to live and work freely without issue. I feel this back up plan is on the up and up but I can't help but feel paranoid about explaining this to the border agent at customs. I know not to give out more information than necessary. I have not purchased my ticket yet but will do that within the next few weeks. How long should I make my visit for? I was thinking no more than 6 weeks? I would postpone the flight over but I am flying from Atlanta, GA and during the summer months they will not fly live cargo if the temp gets above 85 F and mid to late June the temps can jump to the 90s. I really don't want to worry about her not getting on the flight because of high temps.

I hope I am over thinking it and being paranoid for no good reason.

Thank you in advance and grateful for anyone's advice, experience or suggestions.

Best regards,
Nikki
