passport renewal

passport renewal

Hi friends,

I am under Tier1 (General) visa and having my extension next year i.e March 2014 and my passport expires in Oct 2014.
Pls let me know if I need to renew my passport before going for visa extension or I can renew it after having visa extension.

No need to renew your passport before as the visa is not in the passport anymore. But if you can renew it before it would be easier to avoid registering with the police again after.

But someone told me that, visa extension will be given up to passport validity date. Is it true ?

Its good to get a new passport before the extension to avoid unnecessary confusion for the caseworker..

No, its not true. Additionally your visa extension will be issued on a BRP card, unlike before where a visa vignette was affixed on your passport.

Visa dates are based on rules which are not based on passport validity at all.
